7 EFFECTIVE TIPS FOR MAXIMISING TIME AND ENERGY MANAGEMENT

Do you ever feel like there are just not enough hours in the day or enough days in the week?

Do you feel like time is literally flying by, and the stress of trying to keep up leaves you feeling drained?

Do you ever feel like certain people, places or activities leave you feeling drained while others make you feel recharged?

Do you feel like you’re running out of time?

7 EFFECTIVE TIPS FOR TIME AND ENERGY MANAGEMENT

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT?

Our modern day lives are busy. On the surface it looks like we’re all following the same sleep, wake up, eat, work, kids’  stuff, TV, eat and sleep cycle.

The truth is most of us are on the go non stop, thinking, talking, rushing around from the minute we open our eyes in the morning till the minute we close our eyes at night.

We all know that time management is a useful skill.

We are all guilty of wasting time and putting certain things off, procrastinating.

This is often the case for the boring, challenging activities, but more and more of us put off doing the fun activities too. We postpone all the ‘extra’ plans because it feels like there is not enough time.

Perhaps …..we might do that one fun thing on the weekend! Maybe…. we have time for an after work quick drink on a Friday night.

EFFECTIVE TIME AND ENERGY MANAGEMENT TIPS

TIME AND ENERGY MANAGEMENT

There is one question that I get asked on a daily basis.

How do you manage?

In Swedish: Hur orkar du?

For a while I wasn’t exactly sure what the question meant.

Did they mean how do I cope with the long Swedish winter?

Or how do I manage the contrast of moving from loud and lively London to a slow,  sleepy Swedish village?

And it’s not just Swedes asking me this everyday. My closest friends and even my sister ask me this question. All the time!

So I started asking them specifically what they wanted to know.

  • How do you cope with 4 kids in 4 years?
  • How do you manage all the laundry, cooking, school commitments?
  • How do you find the time for your husband and marriage?
  • How do you have the energy for your business?
  • How do you find the energy to travel?
  • How do you find time to wax?
  • How do you stay calm, energised, healthy and happy?

The last question feels like a huge compliment. Because to me that is the highest form of success. I measure how well everything is going in my life on 2 things.

Am I feeling healthy?  Am I feeling happy?  Mind, body and soul.

Not so much about whether we’re all wearing clean clothes, or have a nice car.

7 EFFECTIVE TIPS FOR TIME & ENERGY MANAGEMENT

It’s taken me a long time to prioritise myself. For a long time I didn’t feel like I deserved it.

Once I experienced for myself the mind, body, soul connection.

Once I understood how ignoring that connection depleted my energy levels,  I commited to finding and making time for the activities, people and places that made me feel stellar! Everyday.

When I feel stellar, I find I have more energy and it feels like I have more time to manage everything without compromising my health and happiness.

So I make time to meditate everyday. I book a regular massage. Guilt free.

I feel that is an investment of my time. I experience a high ROI with my energy levels, health and happiness.

The kids might eat a lot of sandwiches sometimes, but the time saved cooking means we have an extra hour to play outside that day.

I say no thank you to the person who leaves me feeling drained, and yes please to watching the sunset.

It looks different for everyone. What recharges you might drain me. What drains you might recharge me.

For me, time alone with my mind, body and soul recharges me. Journaling, massage, yoga, dancing, breathwork.

Experiencing intimacy and love with my husband recharges me.

Cuddles with my children, hearing them laugh definitely feels like a recharge.

Nature. Experiencing the beauty in nature recharges me.

It took me a long time. I’m happy and grateful that I learned that lesson in my thirties and didn’t waste time rushing around stressed, my mind, body and soul suffering all the way till I was 50!

Women especially can so easily fall into that pattern of putting themselves last.

Swallowing up the story that it’s the role of  a woman, of a mother to sacrifice her own needs, her own desires for everyone else.

And it can feel oh so good to give, to nurture, to care for others, to love. This I believe, is part of experiencing living this beautiful life as a woman, as a mother.

We can absolutely do all of those things. We can definitely be generous with our time and energy.

We just need to remember that we deserve the same love, the same time and energy. More.

Most importantly we need to give, nurture, care for and love ourselves.

I can’t pour from an empty cup and neither can you.

THAT QUOTE:

Imagine there is a bank account that credits your account each morning with $86,400. It carries over no balance from day to day.

Every evening the bank deletes whatever part of the balance you failed to used during the day. What would you do? Draw out every cent, of course?

Each of us has such a bank, it’s name is time. Every morning, it credits you 86,400 seconds.

Every night it writes off at a lost, whatever of this you failed to invest to a good purpose. It carries over no balance. It allows no overdraft.

Each day it opens a new account for you. Each night it burns the remains of the day.

If you fail to use the day’s deposits, the loss is yours.

There is no drawing against “tomorrow”.

You must live in the present on today’s deposits.

Invest it so as to get from it the utmost in health, happiness, and health.

The clock is running.

Make the most of today.”

time management tips

HOW TO GET STARTED

Set an intention.

How do you want to feel?

Energised? Stress free?

When do you usually feel that way?

When did you last feel that way?

Become consciously aware of the people who make you feel drained and those who make you feel recharged.

Make a list of the places and situations where you feel tired, and those where you feel alive.

Remember those activities that leave you feeling low,  and those that ignite your passion, purpose, power and pleasure.

Becoming consciously aware of when and whether you are spending or giving away your energy, versus saving and investing your energy is a great first step.

7 EFFECTIVE TIPS FOR MAXIMISING YOUR TIME AND ENERGY MANAGEMENT

  1. Be aware of your energy and emotions. You. What makes you feel stellar?
  2. Prioritise. What is really important?
  3. Say no thank you to what doesn’t recharge you. Say yes please more thank you to what recharges you.
  4. Make to do lists. Do the biggest, hardest or boring thing first.
  5. Minimise distractions, TV etc.
  6. Delegate. It’s OK to ask for help.
  7. Set an intention or a goal.

THE BIGGEST MISCONCEPTION

The biggest misconception we cling onto is that we will do it tomorrow.

Don’t wait.

Don’t waste your time or your energy ruminating over the past or worrying about the future.

Don’t hover in the present either mindlessly sinking into the sofa hypnotised by the TV.

Be present, now. Be alive!

THE LAST THING YOU NEED TO KNOW

I believe we deserve to make time for those activities, people, places that make us feel alive, feel passionate, powerful, purposeful, stellar everyday. Not just on the weekend, or on our next holiday, or when we retire.

To me, that is effective time management. Honouring the limited time we actually have and honouring our soul.

What makes you feel stellar?

Will you make time for that today?
